*** Our Rating: 4 stars out of 5 ***
Schwinn’s entry-level recumbent exercise bike for 2013 and 2014 is the A20. It is our favorite bike in the $200 to $350 price range.
As has been documented on this site, we do like Schwinn quite a lot. They are actually manufactured by Nautilus, a company who has been in the fitness industry for a multitude of years. Their reputation is hard-earned and it’s been gained by consistently producing quality exercise equipment, and this bike is no exception.

7 Workout Programs, 8 Levels of Resistance
It’s of high importance that you have plenty of variety and new challenges when you’re considering different pieces of workout equipment. This bike gives you 7 different workout programs – that means different courses and challenges – to keep you constantly pushing toward higher goals.
There are 8 different levels of resistance that are controlled by a belt-drive motor, so this bike runs pretty smoothly and it’s also pretty quiet.
The heart rate monitors are on the side handles, so if you hold on there, you’ll get a constant track of your heart rate on the screen in front of you.
Big Screen and Comfy Seat
The screen on the A20 is pretty good, especially considering the price range that this bike is in. The best thing about it is that it’s so easy to read, and it gives you quick access to information like your speed, calories burned, heart rate, distance, and more. There are speakers on this bike, but honestly you’re probably better off using your headphones, as the speakers don’t get very loud.
The seat on this bike is fairly comfortable, as are most recumbent bike seats. Naturally you’ll be in a reclined position in this bike, so as we talked about in our guide, it’s going to be great for those with arthritis or those who are recovering from some type of surgery or injury. It helps to spread the weight out over your butt and back, instead of an upright bike, which places all weight on your hip bones.
Further, there is a water bottle holder underneath the screen. And, if you’re concerned about moving this bike around, it’s fairly easy to do with the built in wheels. This one isn’t too heavy, either.
What do other people say?
At the time of writing this review, there were 37 reviews on Amazon which rated this bike an average of 4.1 stars out of a possible 5 stars.
I scanned the reviews and found that several people did not realize that this bike does not come with a power cord – so be aware of that if and when you decide to purchase this bike.
Other than that, most reviews are positive. Several reviewers noted that they’d recently had knee surgery, and they used this bike to do some rehab work in their homes. Nice! Reviewers are also pretty pleased with the value pricing of the Schwinn A20. We have seen it hover from $249 all the way down to $230, but it is normally at about $249 and ships for free on Amazon.
Where can I get one?
As always, Amazon is almost certainly going to have the best combination of fast shipping and customer service, should you have any issues with your purchase. We recommend getting the A20 through them, which you can do here: Schwinn A20 on Amazon.com
We have no qualms about recommending this bike. The In Home Cyclist rating of the A20 is 4 stars out of 5 stars – we think that for under $250 this is the best value on the market. Schwinn bikes have consistently been good over the long term and this one does not disappoint!
